Hi and welcome back to my blog. In this post I would like to share my experience of traveling to Malta, what I saw, share with you my favourite places and amazing photo locations. If that is something that interests you keep on reading. In February 2020 we traveled to Malta. It was still possible to travel without any restrictions at that time.

During our visit we've stayed in a lovey hotel called "Palazzo Rosaria" very close to the centre of Valetta. The hotel was wonderful and I very much enjoyed our stay there.
For full hotel review check my other blog post: "The "PALAZZO ROSARIA" Valletta Hotel Review by Kai" .
We've visited Malta for 3 days and we wanted to explore it as much as possible.
On our first day we explored Valetta. Such a beautiful city !

I honestly fell in love with the windows (I mean just look at this :) )
Soo many incredible buildings.

During our visit it was also a time when everyone prepares for the "Feast of St. Paul's Shipwreck in Malta" . "The feast of St Paul’s Shipwreck in Malta is one of the major public holidays and a religious feast on the island. The feast is to celebrate St Paul who is said to have been shipwrecked on Malta in 60AD. This event is celebrated every year on the 10th of February."

That is why the streets and building were all decorated. The event was taking place few days after our visit so we couldn't see it exactly but I'm sure it's a great time of celebration.
There are many beautiful photo locations around Valetta but here are few of my favourites:

Triton Fountain in Valetta

Valetta Waterfront (at the top of Barrack lift)

Siege Bell War memorial
For full list of Instagramable locations in Malta (I'm sure there are more but these are the ones I discovered) check out my other blog "Instagramable Malta by Kai".

The weather was lovely so we couldn't miss out on ice cream. We chose "Amorino" and they were delicious. Very close to our hotel too :)

To end our first day we decided to find a restaurant to eat dinner.

We found a restaurant called "Cheeky Monkey".

What's best about it is that instead of chairs, few tables have swings :) It was great ! :) :)
Don't ask me about food as I'm not a big food person but for me my meal ( (I had fish and chips ^^ ) was delicious.

The staff were very friendly and every table had peanuts (in case you got hungry while waiting for your food).

Definitely recommend visiting :)
Decent prices and the portions were huge :o

On our second day we've decided to book a bus tour. And explore the South part of the island. The hop on hop off bus takes around 3h but you can get out at any of the stops and then jump on the bus and continue your journey. It costs €20 for a daily ticket however you can book both tours North and South as a joined ticket and get it cheaper.
I would also recommend to become familiar with the time table as you don't want to miss the last bus ;)

The bus offers a chance to listen to a guide over the headphones (One time use headphones - these are provided on every bus or you can use yours but they must have a mini jack in order for you to be able to connect to the "radio"). The guide is available in few languages including English, Polish, Spanish, French,Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Greek, German and few more. For full details and up to date prices check their website. (LINK BELOW)
The stops on the South tour include: -Valletta Bus Terminus -War Museum & Fort St. Elmo
-Mediterranean Conference Centre -Malta Experience Show
-Valletta Waterfront -Tarxien Temples
-Hypogeum -Vittoriosa Waterfront
-Zejtun Parish Church -Zejtun St. Gregory’s Church
-Marsaxlokk Fishing Village & Market -Ghar Dalam Cave & Museum
-Blue Grotto -Hagar Qim & Mnajdra Temples
-Malta Falconry Centre -Limestone Heritage
We didn't stop at every stop but here are the photos from the few we decided to explore:

Valletta Waterfront:
"The Valletta Waterfront, is a promenade in Floriana, Malta, mainly featuring three prominent buildings: a church in the middle, the Pinto Stores or the Pinto Wharf on the left, and the Forni Stores or the Forni Shopping Complex on the right."

Marsaxlokk Fishing Village & Market
-Marsaxlokk is the largest fishing village in Malta
We didn't stop here but I managed to take this photo when bus stopped. Soo colourful right ?

Hagar Qim & Mnajdra Temples
The megalithic complex of Ħaġar Qim is located on the southern edge of the island of Malta. The Megalithic Temples of Malta are among the most ancient religious sites on Earth, described by the World Heritage Sites committee as "unique architectural masterpieces."

In 1992 UNESCO recognized Ħaġar Qim and four other Maltese megalithic structures as World Heritage.

Torri Xutu Watch Tower. A place that honestly surprised me the most. We stopped here because of a Watch Tower which is beautiful and the view is incredible but...

just round the corner we discovered this ! I have included a map for you to find it too :)

The view behind the watch tower is also incredible - I mean just look at this:

After a whole day of exploring we came back to Valetta. For dinner we chose a pizza place called "Cibo".
The food there was delicious and I loved the interiors.

On our final day we decided to take the hop on hop off bus and explore the North part of the island.
The stops on the North Tour include: -Valletta Bus Terminus -San Anton Gardens
-Ta’Qali Crafts Village -Aviation Museum
-Mosta Church -Mdina Gate
-Roman Villa -Mgarr Church
-Golden Bay -Bugibba Square
-Malta National Aquarium -Splash & Fun Park
-Marine Park -St. George’s Bay
-Spinola Bay
The same as during the South tour we didn't have a chance to stop at every stop. But here are some we did see.
Mdina

Mdina is a fortified city in the Northern Region of Malta which served as the island's capital from antiquity to the medieval period. The city is still confined within its walls, and has a population of just under 300. I personally fell in love with Mdina. The city is very quiet and cut from the outside world some could say. Perfect location for photoshoots or movies.
Here are some of my favourite photos I took in Mdina:

Malta National Aquarium The Malta National Aquarium is the largest aquarium in the Maltese Islands. It is located in Qawra, in the northern part of the island of Malta, and it hosts more than 175 different species of various animals, including Fishes, molluscs, reptiles and insects.
It's a perfect place for a family day out or if you're a fan of Aquariums. You can also book a tour to see the laboratory, feeding area which I found fascinating.

In the evening we went for dinner to a restaurant called "D'Office".

The interiors again were amazing. Such a lovely restaurant.

I ordered Calamari and it was quite tasty
( I'm sorry to all my Vegan and Vegetarian friends ).

The next day it was our time to leave Malta. I had a wonderful time there and would definitely love to go back !

When at the airport don't forget the local specials :) Great souvenirs or a gift for someone back home.
And that would be it for this blog. I hope you enjoyed reading it and found some useful informations for your trip to Malta or maybe it encouraged you to put Malta on your list of places to visit. Remember that I visited Malta before the pandemic so rules etc. were different. Make sure to read all new updates on the government or tourism website before you travel.
